| New Lebanon Shaker Stand Classic Shaker Style. This small table, or more properly called a 'Stand' exhibits the simplicity and functionally the Shakers are renowned for. Even now, it's timeless style allows it to fit in with any decor, early or modern. The style originiated at the New Lebanon Shaker Village, New York c.1820. New Lebanon is about 10 miles from Hancock Shaker Village near Pittsfield, MA. It's 26" height and 15" top and delicately curved legs give it a light, slender appearence. It stands slightly above chair arm height and is perfect between a pair of wing back chairs. The body of the stand is painted with a very durable paint made of milk, lime, and earth colors. The top is first stained with a wash of the body color, then a durable varnish is applied and crackled to reproduce the look and feel of an old furniture finish. Or, if you prefer, the top can be the same time worn painted finish as the body of the stand. The legs are attached with sliding dovetail joinery and reinforced with a metal plate, just like the originials. The metal plate or 'spider' is fastened in place with hand made nails. |
